How to Measure for a Gold Anklet in Singapore

Quick answer: Measure around the part of your ankle where you want the anklet to sit, then compare that body measurement with the finished length and adjustable range of the exact anklet. Do not choose from a photograph or a generic size label alone. Check that the chain can move comfortably as you stand and walk without sliding so low that it catches under a shoe.

This guide is for adult anklets. A gold anklet’s listed length, link thickness, clasp and any extension chain all affect its fit. The practical method is to measure your own ankle, decide where you like the anklet to rest, and test a similar length before ordering.

Measure the position where you will wear it

Stand with your foot flat on the floor. Wrap a flexible measuring tape around the ankle at the level where you want the anklet. Keep the tape flat against the skin without pulling it tight. Note the measurement in centimetres. If you do not have a soft tape, wrap a piece of non-stretch string around the same point, mark where it meets, lay it flat and measure it with a ruler. This tape-or-string approach is also used in Ankletme’s jewellery sizing guide; its product-specific extension lengths should not be assumed for another shop’s anklets.

Repeat the measurement once to catch a twisted tape or a shifted position. You may get a different result above the ankle bone than below it. Record the position as well as the number, especially if someone else is helping you shop.

Choose the drape, then check the finished length

Your ankle circumference is a starting point, not automatically the anklet length to buy. A finished anklet needs enough room for your preferred movement. Some people want a close fit; others prefer a chain that drapes lower. Instead of applying a fixed “add this many centimetres” rule, test a non-stretch string cut to the candidate finished length around your ankle, with the ends held together where a clasp would close. Stand, take a few steps and notice where it sits.

For example, if your ankle measures 22 cm where you plan to wear the chain, a 22 cm finished anklet would sit at that circumference with little or no ease. Test longer lengths to see which position feels right for you. This is an illustration of the method, not a recommendation that everyone with a 22 cm ankle should buy one particular size.

Compare your test length with the listing’s actual measurement. Ask whether the stated length includes the clasp and whether an extension chain is included. Where a product has several variants, read the length for the selected variant; do not assume that a different weight is the same length. The 916 gold round-link bell anklet listing, for example, presents length with weight as selectable information. Check the live listing for current options and availability.

Check the clasp, charms and your shoes

Look beyond the circumference. A clasp should be manageable for you to fasten and secure when you move. An extension chain gives a range of possible fastening points, but confirm which links are intended for fastening and what the shortest and longest wearable settings actually are. A dangling bell or charm may change where the anklet catches or how it feels inside a shoe.

Try your test length with the footwear you expect to wear. If the chain slips into the shoe collar, rubs at a strap, or feels taut when you walk or bend your ankle, reassess the length or style. If it hangs much lower than you wanted, compare a shorter setting. Fit is personal: the right result is a chain you can wear comfortably in your routine, not a number taken from a universal chart.

Fine chains and projecting charms need thoughtful handling. For more general day-to-day considerations, read our everyday gold jewellery guide. Remove an anklet for activities where it may snag or be pulled, and store it separately to reduce tangling.

Buying an anklet as a gift

If you can discreetly measure an anklet the recipient already wears, record its full end-to-end length and the fastening point they use. A flexible tape around their ankle is more reliable than guessing from height, shoe size or a photograph. If neither is possible, consider asking the recipient or choosing a style with a clearly documented adjustable range. Confirm the exact return or exchange terms before buying a size-dependent gift; do not assume every item can be resized.
